St. John’s Master Plan

St. John’s occupies most of two city blocks adjacent to the historic downtown of Orange. This diverse facility includes many distinguished older buildings most of which needed to be restored. Buildings such as the Theater/Gym/Dining Hall building required not technical improvements but some creative adaptive reuse suggestions as well. Other often more recently constructed buildings became candidates for demolition. The school had and was continuing to grow requiring construction of new classrooms, a library, administrative offices and athletic facilities. Because the site was small and the school could not stop operating, issues of phasing were critical to the implementation of the plan. With the Master Plan complete the first phase of work began in the fall of 1991.
